International Monetary Fund says it was a peak of unemployment rate equal to 13.7% of total labor force in 2003 in Brazil. The peak was followed by downward trend during 9 years up to the 6.8% level in 2014. The unemployment was high again since 2016 and reached its next peak in 2017 with the rate of 12.8% in 2017. After that, it started to decline and this downward trend is expected to continue  in the near future: to 9% in 2024.
