Office for National Statistics, United Kingdom (ONS) is the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics and its recognised national statistical institute. ONS is responsible for collecting and publishing statistics related to the economy, population and society at national, regional and local levels. We also conduct the census in England and Wales every 10 years.

      Trends in Crime Survey for England and Wales (CSEW) crime experienced by adults and children aged 10 to 15 and Home Office police recorded crime, by offence type. Also includes trends in offender relationship of CSEW violence. Note: The date format for the crime data in England and Wales:  a) From 1981 to 1999, the year starts from January and ends on December (e.g Jan1984 to Dec1984) b) From 2001 to current year, the year starts from April and ends on March of Next year (e.g April 2014 to 2015)    Trends in CSEW incidents of crime from year ending December 1981 to year ending March 2019

        NOTE 1.Northern Ireland data is only available every 3 months. Northern Ireland data is copied forward until the next data is available, which will be in the September 2019 release. 2.. From the release of September data on 17 October 2018 the indices have been re-referenced and published with January 2015=100, this allows the Northern Ireland data to be incorporated and the calculation of a UK series. Regular re-referencing of indices is methodological good practice as it avoids rounding issues that can arise from small index values. Please note that re-referencing does not impact on published inflation rates, although when using the indices to calculate inflation rates, it is important to use indices that are referenced on the same year.
