  • Over 1 billion people in the world live without clear drinking water
  • Over 2.4 billion people lack adequate sanitation
  • Almost 4,000 children die every day from water-borne diseases
  • Water consumption (daily per capita use) differs greatly from region to region:
    • North America and Japan: about 350 litres
    • Europe: about 200 litres
    • Sub-Saharan Africa: 10-20 litres
